The Microsoft Certified IT Professional or MCITP certifications validate that you have the comprehensive set of skills necessary to perform a particular IT job.
These IT jobs can include a server administrator, database administrator or enterprise messaging administrator.
By earning an MCITP certification, you will distinguish yourself as an IT professional with the skills and capabilities to work with Microsoft technologies.
Many exams are being retired by Microsoft as of July 31, 2013. As a result, if you earn an MCITP you will be eligible for upgrade paths to the new Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) certifications. This newer certification path teaches new technology like cloud computing and virtualization.
Even though this certification will not be available as of July 31, 2013, if you hold an MCITP: Enterprise Administrator or MCITP: Server Administrator certification you are automatically certified in the new MCSA Windows Server 2008 since you already passed all required exams. You can then start the upgrade path to the new MCSA and MCSE for Windows Server 2012.
The MCITP requires recertification every three years.
